We’re committed to equitable outcomes for all, and to creating workplace environments where everyone feels they belong. We treat our employees, contractors, suppliers and communities with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of their gender, gender identity, cultural background, religious beliefs, sexuality, disability, personal circumstances or other lived experiences.

Where everyone belongs

We’re building a team that reflects the communities we operate in. It’s our diverse mix of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences that fuels our power to innovate, adapt and collaborate to create sustainable solutions for our customers and communities.

Our aim is to create a workplace culture of inclusion and wellbeing for all, where everyone belongs. This means everyone is treated fairly and with respect, and all employees have equitable opportunities to succeed.

We support and celebrate our diverse workforce through inclusive policies, practices and education, with targeted initiatives designed to increase diversity and drive consciously inclusive actions and behaviours that enable everyone to shine.

For example, Transurban’s Pride network connects our LGBTQIA+ employees and allies to support each other, celebrate diversity and enhance understanding. Our workplaces are designed with consideration for our employees’ diverse needs and abilities, including via inclusive design processes and specialist partnerships.

Creating a gender equal future

We are leaders in infrastructure, a traditionally male-dominated industry. We’re leading the charge to remove barriers and welcome more women into our sector. To achieve this, we deliver mentoring and career support programs and benefits that support flexibility and excellent parental leave benefits for all.

We are committed to reaching and sustaining gender balance across our organisation.

Our gender-equity progress to date includes:

  • meeting our gender balance targets of 40% women; 40% men; and 20% any gender/non-binary balance for both our direct workforce, and at senior management level
  • being recognised through the WGEA Employer of Choice citation, which we have held since 2015
  • consistently ranking in Equileap’s top-10 Australian and top-20 global companies for gender equality performance and, in 2024, ranking as the no.1 company both globally and in Australia
  • advancing gender equality through working to reduce the gender pay gap: see our Gender Pay Gap Context Statement for details.

Playing our part in reconciliation

We strive to create a culture of inclusion, respect and proud celebration of First Nations cultures with our customers, our people and business partners. We respect the land where we operate, and the voices of our community.

We look for, and create, opportunities to walk alongside First Nations Peoples on the path to reconciliation, including through:collaborating with partners to create job, training and employment opportunities

  • celebrating First Nations’ culture and contributions in our asset design
  • specifically supporting First Nations community organisations in our annual community grants program.

The perspectives of our First Nations’ employees, partners and community members all contribute to the ongoing delivery of our business strategy.

We also host a Reconciliation Employee Network that is open to all employees. The network provides opportunities for our whole workforce to join our efforts towards reconciliation, and to take individual action as well.

Examples of our partnerships – some new, and some established many years ago – include:

Creating inclusive partnerships

Our inclusive approach extends to the businesses we partner with. We have long-standing relationships with suppliers who create meaningful and rewarding employment opportunities for under-represented groups.

For example, we partner with Ability Works (Victoria) and MultiCap (Queensland) to create jobs for people with disability, and a range of organisations to support and enhance our diversity and inclusion efforts including:

  • the Diversity Council of Australia, an independent body advocating for diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Pride in Diversity (Australia), national non-profit LGBTQIA+ employer support program
  • Seramount (US) diversity, equity and inclusion consulting and research organisation
  • Australian Network on Disability.
