Recruitment scam

A recruitment scam involving the Transurban brand in the US has been discovered by our security team.

What we know

Fraudsters are impersonating Transurban to conduct interviews using Telegram – an encrypted service like WhatsApp that is difficult to track by law enforcement agencies. After conducting these interviews, individuals are being sent fake job offer letters that appear to be signed by Transurban personnel, including some executives. In the US, it is resulting in people being asked for personal information including Social Security Numbers (SSN).

What to look our for

Scammers are good at making fraudulent emails appear legitimate with the use of branding, names and titles.

Transurban will always:

  • Post open jobs on this website and well known job advertisement platforms such as LinkedIn.
  • Conduct a formal interview process for posted jobs, using regular phone or video conferencing platforms like Webex.
  • Use appropriate onboarding documents and platforms (like DocuSign) to collect personal information.
